Course Description: Students will use a variety of traditional and contemporary art materials to create works of 2D design and drawing. Media used will range from drawing, printmaking, painting etc... Students will apply the elements and principles of design to create original pieces of work. Sketchbooks will be an integral part of student process to create artworks guided by questions/Inquiry.

Resource Materials: Students are expected to bring their sketchbook, pencil and eraser to class every day. Sketchbooks may be purchased at school. (cash or cheque payable to Sentinel Secondary for $11.00) Coloured pencils and fineliners will also be used throughout the year. Students can store these in their lockers until they are needed. All other materials will be provided.
Assessment and Evaluation: The students’ work will be compared with a specific set of criteria outlined for each assignment. Skills, knowledge and performance will be evaluated.
Marks Assignment:
Sketchbook/Visual Journal (includes home sketching and in class work) 20%
Projects and Portfolio of in class work 60%
Studio Performance (routines, punctuality participation, cleaning of workspace, social responsibility) 20%
Policies and Procedures:
Additional studio time is available in order to help students with deadlines but must be arranged in advance. The art room is usually available at lunchtime for extra work time.
Students are expected to bring sketchbook, pencil and eraser every day
Students are expected to arrive on time and stay until they are dismissed (students who are repeatedly late will be expected to stay in at lunch or after school to complete work)
It is the STUDENT’S responsibility to consult the teacher about catching up on assignments missed due to illness or family vacation. Without consultation, late marks will be assessed. Students must contact a friend or email me directly to find out what work was assigned or completed while they were absent.
Students will be working with a variety of materials and tools. Safety and care of equipment is of the utmost concern. Students unable to manage the responsibility of working in the art room will be referred to administration.
