As an artist should you think about how you present your work? What is your intent for the viewer? What experience would you like the viewer to have? How exactly do you want people to feel while viewing your work? What reaction do you hope to elicit?
Assignment:
Compositional strengths
-Understanding of the elements for composition as they apply to photography.
Students will learn how to make simple editing techniques, print and transfer using medium onto wood.
Photoshop Techniques: (see quick fixes word document above)
- Sharpening using high pass filter (see tutorial)
- Curves adjustment layer to enhance contrast (see tutorial)
- Hue/Saturation
What you will do:
RESIZING IMAGES IN ADOBE PHOTOSHOP
Theme: Spring
You need to think about why this image connects to the wood that you are presenting it on.
- 1st measure your wood block in inches (Width and Height).
- Open image in Adobe photoshop and make the size of your image the size of your wood block. (image/image size)
- Make adjustments to the image in "adjustment layers". (windows/layers/adjustment layers)
- Over saturate the image for the transfer.
- You can decide if you want to crop out certain areas.
- Create a folder lesson 2b and save the file as jpeg file into your folder. (file/save as/ jpeg)
- Let me know when it is uploaded and I will print the jpeg image.
- You will then start the process of transferring your image onto wood.
(I will demonstrate this in class)

- In Photoshop choose Image>Image size
- Turn OFF resample.
- Enter your target resolution into the Resolution field, in this case 300dpi (if you are targeting 300 DPI, PPI is the digital equivalent)
- turn resample back on
- Change the height OR the width. Only one - not both to fit onto the wood plank.
- Make adjustments to the image in "adjustment layers". (windows/layers/adjustment layers)
