Selected Works 5 actual works | 40% of portfolio score Students will submit works of art and design and writing to demonstrate skillful synthesis of materials, processes, and ideas:
5 physical works or high-quality reproductions of physical works with written responses on paper identifying the materials, processes, and ideas used.
Works may come from the Sustained Investigation section, but they do not have to.
Submit five works that demonstrate:
drawing skills (depending on type of portfolio submitted)
Synthesis of materials, processes, and ideas
For each work, state the following in writing:
Idea(s) visually evident (100 characters maximum, including spaces)
Materials used (100 characters maximum, including spaces)
Processes used (100 characters maximum, including space
Successful works of art require integration of the elements and principles of design. The students work in this section should demonstrate understanding of the principles of design including: - unity/variety - balance - emphasis, - constrast - rhythm, - repetition, - proportion/ scale - figure/ ground relationships
The best demonstration show experimentation and a range of conceptual approaches to the work. Examples of work shows: - line, shape or colour to create unit or variety in a composition - work that demonstrates symmetry/asymmetry, balance or anomaly - work that explores figure/ground relationships - work that develops a modular or repeat pattern to create rhythm - work that uses various colour relationships for emphasis or contrast in a composition - work that investigates or exaggerates proportion/scale
