BIG IDEA: WHAT IS A THEME? DOES A THEME CREATE NARRATIVE?
Assignment: Create your own narrative for your theme. Create a narrative by exploring Diptych. DIPTYCH: A diptych is a combination of two images placed immediately next to each other to make an artistic statement, dialogue or comparison. Diptych photography can be a really interesting way to play images off each other and create a visual storytelling piece of art.
Photoshop tools to be explored; - Dodge/burn using overlay masks (see tutorial) - Curves adjustment layer to enhance contrast - Sharpening using high pass filter (see tutorial) - Colour enhancement using hue and saturation adjustment layer - Black and White (see tutorial) - Clone stamp or healing tools to remove unwanted areas
What I need from you: 1. Create a Diptych. - 2 images edited images required for evaluation. Choose 2 photographs and manipulate in photoshop - use the tools listed above. (Make the image size 5x7(or 8) inches at 300 dpi). - image/image size/click on resample image/change resolution to 300 dpi/ click back on resample/ now change either the height or the width to fit on 8.5 x 11 inch document. (Make the image size 5 (5.5)x7(or 8) inches at 300 dpi).
Creating diptych in Photoshop - Take one of the images: select image/ canvas size/ change the height or width in inches. If you are placing horizontal images on a vertical page then you would increase the height and select the top middle arrows.
Creating diptych in Indesign - Save images out as jpegs in Adobe Photoshop - Open Adobe Indesign - Create new document/ letter size (8.5 inches x 11 inches) - File/ place - edited 5 x7(or 8) inches at 300 dpi images in Adobe Indesign - Export it out as a pdf file. (file/export/adobe pdf print/high quality print) - file name - example: madelynhamblyWS3.pdf - submit file in your folder on the server. Place both files in lesson 4 folder. - Rubric - Fill in and submit in drawer.
Evaluation: Images will be graded on exposure control, camera handling techniques, viewer interest, intent/theme and composition,
